Making Modernism at QAG
O'Keeffe, Preston, Cossington Smith - Making Modernism is the name of the new exhibition on display at the Queensland Art Gallery at South Bank showcasing three female artists who are considered pioneers of the modern art movement.
The exhibition celebrates the work of celebrated American artist Georgia O'Keeffe alongside Australian artists Margaret Preston and Grace Cossington Smith. All three women were unknown to each other but were united in spirit through their paintings of their immediate surroundings.
Wander thru the exhibition and explore each artists’ experimentation with light, colour and form and their commitment to presenting alternative ways of seeing the world.
'Making Modernism' draws together around thirty works by each artist from the breadth of their careers and is presented in partnership with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum, Santa Fe; Heide Museum of Modern Art and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
I enjoyed the work of Margaret Preston the most and particularly liked her native Australian flora works especially her painting titled 'NSW and West Australian banksia', keep an eye out for it and let me know which artist you enjoy the most.
